We’ve all been told lies. Sometimes the lies are easy to recognize, while other times, we have a hard time distinguishing whether something is a lie or not.
Some of us may have been told lies from our childhood that we still believe today. Some of these lies may have come from family and friends, the media, and even churches we attend. We find ourselves holding onto lies about so many things. Our identity, relationships, and lifestyle reflects the lies we’ve believed.
Maybe you grew up with your parents telling you things like you’re ugly or stupid. The media has probably told you that sex before marriage is the best way to go. Maybe you’ve been told by religious leaders that God will love and forgive you as long as you continue t0 be a good person.
I won’t make a long list of lies you may have believed in your time on earth because that would be a very, very long list. What I will do today is share how you can recognize the lies that you’ve believed in the past that may have set you in bondage and how you can break free from these lies.
1. Ask God to reveal to you the lies you have believed.
When you ask God, ask with faith believing that He will answer you and He will.
2. Once God shows you those lies, stop listening to them.
Some lies we believe come from our environment. Maybe you’re beeing fed the lies through the music you listen to, books you read, social media, or people you befriend. Once you’re aware you’re being presented lies, it is your job to extract yourself from continually being exposed to them.
3. Overcome the lies with the Word of the God: The Truth.
If you want to know the truth about who you are, the Bible is the place to go. The world will bombard you with all sort of deceptions. If you aren’t well grounded in the Word, it’ll be difficult to recognize if what you’re being told is lies or truth. The only way to find out the truth is by reading and studying the Word of God.
“And I will walk at liberty, For I seek Your precepts”- Psalms 119:45 Freedom in Christ is incredible.
Chris loves us so much that He wants us all to live a life free of bondage.
“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”- Galatians 5:1
If you truly want to be set free, simply ask God to show you the areas in your mind you’re being deceived. Once you’re made conscious of that, take the necessary steps to stray from those lies.
My prayer is that Abba reveals to you every lie you may have believed. I pray that as you read the Word of God, you may replace your old way of thinking and become dedicated to living in the way of Truth.
